Reimbursements and personal contribution

Whether your health insurer reimburses your treatment depends on:

  • Whether there is a medical indication
  • Whether you have a referral letter
  • The type of policy you have (in-kind policy or combination policy)
  • The health insurer you are insured with
  • Your specific policy conditions
  • Your age: reimbursement applies up to and including the age of 42

To find out what reimbursement you are entitled to, it is essential to read your policy conditions carefully and, if necessary, contact your health insurer. ¹

Types of policies

With an in-kind policy (naturapolis), your health insurer has contracts with healthcare providers. If you choose a healthcare provider your insurer has a contract with, the care is usually fully covered. If you choose a healthcare provider without a contract, only part of the costs will be reimbursed (approximately 65%–80% of the invoice amount).
A combination policy (combinatiepolis) offers slightly less extensive cover than a reimbursement policy (restitutiepolis). With a combination policy, in some cases you are entitled to care (as arranged in an in-kind policy) and in other cases you are entitled to reimbursement of care (as in a reimbursement policy). This type of insurance reimburses at least 100% of the average contracted fee for non-contracted care. If we have a contract with your health insurer, the treatment costs are reimbursed directly to us. If we do not have a contract with your health insurer, you will receive the invoice from us. We recommend that you check with your insurer which reimbursement rate you are entitled to. Depending on your policy, you may have to pay part of the invoice yourself. This is separate from the compulsory deductible. You are responsible for paying our invoice within the stated payment term. If we have a payment agreement with your health insurer, the treatment costs are reimbursed directly to us. To find out whether your health insurer charges a personal contribution in addition to the compulsory deductible, we recommend that you read your policy and policy conditions carefully.
